Meet the Artists

Allan

“I’ve always liked working with things that have a sense of tradition or history. That’s why I work with clay, it feels like an unbroken connection with the past. While some of our techniques have become very sophisticated, the basics are exactly the same. There aren’t many things that have those traditions and I love that sense
of connection.”

Gary

“It's neat to know when people look at their Rookwood, it gives them a sense of happiness and helps them enjoy their home more. I find it inspiring that I can be a part of creating that environment that serves as an escape to the rest of the world.”

Randy

"I'm interested in experimenting with the far reaches of certain chemicals and what the extremes of things can do. I think our future is in breaking the limits. Trying things that no one else has done."

Roy

"I think Rookwood today is about understanding people’s perceptions of us and at the same time challenging and provoking them to think beyond those preconceived ideas. You have the designs they expect, you have the designs they know and then you have an evolution from there with a range of different styles.”

Terri

“As a woman artist I can't think of anything greater than working at Rookwood. I love being able to create something that might make someone else’s daily life more beautiful. Even if it happens to be something as small, it’s about how it them feel, what it makes them remember. It’s about working with my hands to touch someone else’s life.”
